Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy applied to calf of patient

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

Available in: Saskatoon | Warman

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a technology that transmits sound waves to the target tissue. The goal is to create microtrauma to the tissue, increasing blood flow and regeneration leading to a decrease in pain and promoting healing in the target tissue.

ESWT treats the following:

  • plantar fasciitis
  • tendinopathy (rotator cuff/knee/ankle)
  • trigger points
  • iliotibial band pain
  • epicondylitis (tennis and golfer’s elbow)
  • patellar tendinopathy

What can you expect?

Patients can expect to have ESWT explained in detail by their physical therapist or chiropractor. A treatment session consists of receiving a set number of sound wave “shocks” that feel like a tapping sensation at the area of soreness.

ESWT sessions last about 10 to 15 minutes and are performed as part of a regular physical therapy or chiropractic session.
